Federal District Court - Albuquerque housing both federal magistrates and federal district court judges to handle both federal felony and misdemeanor cases

 

Federal District Court - Santa Fe the Santa Fe federal court currently housing one federal district judge

 

First Judicial District Court the court of general jurisdiction for the counties of Los Alamos, Rio Arriba and Santa Fe handling all state felony cases from those counties as well as habeas corpus and appeals from municipal and magistrate court judgments

 

Los Alamos County Magistrate Court handles misdemeanor cases for that county; also may temporarily hold a person from that county on felony charges pending either a preliminary hearing or grand jury

 

New Mexico Court of Appeals handles most appeals from state district courts including the first judicial district court

 

New Mexico Supreme Court handles appeals from the New Mexico Court of Appeals and directly from the district court in first degree murder cases

 

Santa Fe County Magistrate Court handles misdemeanor cases for that county; also may temporarily hold a person from that county on felony charges pending either a preliminary hearing or grand jury

 

10th Circuit US Court of Appeals in Denver handles appeals from the US District Courts withing its circuit

 

US Supreme Court in Washington DC handles appeals from the New Mexico Supreme Court and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals
