Violent Crimes: Robbery
Charges of theft, robbery and armed robbery carry long prison terms. Long term loss of freedom, permanent criminal record, and probation are just a few of the many penalties associated with theft and robbery charges. Because of the often violent nature of such crimes, prosecutors are notoriously aggressive in their attempts to secure convictions in these types of violent felonies. If you, a loved one or friend has been accused of theft, robbery, or related crime, you need an attorney who will fight vigorously on your behalf. And the sooner you hire an experience criminal defense attorney, the better. There are possible defenses depending on the facts. Sometimes the charge may be a case of mistaken identity. Another defense is based on the slang of “wrong place, wrong time.” If someone is charged as an accessory to robbery, the law requires more than mere presence at the scene of the crime; to be convicted the prosecutor must convince all twelve members of the jury beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant helped, encouraged or caused the robbery to take place. Of course if it can be shown that he threatened the victim(s) or held a deadly weapon, then the defense would not be very strong compared to a case where he was simply present when the crime took place.
